Types of Wall Phones
| |
With the prevalence of cell phones over the past five to 10 years, house phones,
and therefore wall phones, have decreased somewhat in popularity; however, contrary to
popular belief, they are still widely used in many homes.
Unlike cell phones, house phones can be plugged into many different phone
outlets, creating one phone line throughout the house that can be accessed from different
phones located in many different rooms.
Wall phones combine the convenience of a cell phone with the reliability of a
landline.

The biggest benefit of a wall phone is that it decreases the clutter on a countertop and frees
up space for many different activities. A wall phone mounted in the kitchen will create more counter space
for cooking and baking.
A wall phone in an office or study will allow more room to work and create space for a computer
and printer. In a bedroom, a wall phone will make more space on already typically small nightstands, leaving
room for alarm clocks, lamps, and reading material.
Wall phones can be many different styles. They can have a rotary dial or have
individual buttons for dialing like more modern phones. They can be a corded or cordless wall phone. The phone can
rest on top of the wall phone body, or it can hang on the front. Of course, wall phones come in many different
colors. Some have extensive features like speed dial, call waiting, and caller ID, while others are simply
able to make and receive phone calls.
If you are looking for a wall phone or two for your house, there are many places that you can
look. Of course, a good place to start is at stores specializing in electronics, for example, Best Buy.
Target and Wal-Mart also have extensive electronics departments and have good prices on a variety of landline
phones.
There are also many online retailers from which you can purchase wall phones. The Internet is an
especially good place to look for a wall phone if you are looking for specific features or are having
difficulty finding a good selection at other stores. Popular and reputable brands include Panasonic and GE phones, among many others.
If you are not picky about the particular style or color of wall phone you end up with, a great
way to save some money is to visit your local thrift store or second-hand shop. Many house phones, including
wall phones, are donated to these types of businesses and then are resold at very low prices.
